WE ARE A PRIVATE STUDIO

This means that we do not take walk-ins, and doors are closed to the public, only allowing clients (and their guests) in for their appointments. You will only be able to book an appointment with an artist when their books are open, via a booking request form here on our website. Most of our artists open their books for one or two days at a time, a few times per year.

If the artist you want to get tattooed by has their books closed, you can join our mailing list on our home page, and/or follow @KARMAKNIFE or the individual artist on Instagram and turn on notifications— we always post details when it comes time for an artist to begin opening their books up. You may also check the website at any time for details on when an artist’s books will open. You will likely have to wait anywhere from 3-12 months for an appointment.

BOOKING REQUESTS

To book an appointment with one of our artists, you will need to fill out a booking request form. Booking request forms are only live on our website when an artist’s books are open, during the specified dates and times, and will not be available otherwise. The form(s) will remain live on our website until the artist’s books close— at which time, the form will disappear.

Artists’ books open and close at their own discretion. To keep up with these openings and closures, you can subscribe to our mailing list via our home page. You may also follow our artists’ individual Instagrams (@sammraee, @peanutbrittles, @hudslim, @princesspuru), and the shop Instagram (@karmaknife).

Unfortunately we can not accept every request that comes our way due to the sheer amount that we receive! If we think that the project is better suited for another artist, we may recommend you to someone else. Your request is likely to get accepted if you want to book something that seems like it belongs in the artist’s portfolio. We place importance in the client’s desire to get tattooed by a certain artist because you love their work and because their style fits your project.

Please be patient while waiting for your artist to get back to you. KEEP YOUR EYES OUT FOR AN EMAIL RESPONSE & CHECK YOUR JUNK MAIL!

DEPOSITS + CANCELLATIONS/RESCHEDULING

Our artists require a deposit to book an appointment. Each artist has their own deposit policy, and will give you their individual deposit information upon acceptance of your booking request. If your artist does not receive a deposit, your appointment will not be booked.

Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE upon cancellation or rescheduling. If you need to reschedule, please try to do so AT LEAST 2 weeks in advance if possible. We understand that life happens, so we do our best to honor deposits for rescheduled appointments, but this is on a case-by-case basis. Your artist reserves the right to ask for another deposit for a rescheduled appointment.

If you miss your appointment without contacting your artist, you are considered a no-call no-show and you will not get your deposit back. You will need to put down another deposit to make another appointment. No exceptions. Your artist also reserves the right to choose not to reschedule you after a no-show.

We have a 30 minute grace period for late appointments. Please contact your artist if you are going to be late. If you show up late with no heads up, we will consider your appointment cancelled and you will not get your deposit back.

CONSULTATIONS

An in-person consultation may be necessary before your appointment if your artist is fitting a design in between other tattoos, designing large scale work, or if the design wraps at all. Your artist will let you know in their response to your booking request if a scheduled consultation is necessary. Consultations are expected to be held in person at Karmaknife, please plan accordingly.

DESIGN CHANGES

Our artists do not reveal designs to clients before the time of their appointment.

Trust in your artist is an important part of our process. You are booking an appointment for custom artwork, and should trust that your artist will provide a design that you will love. However, if there is ANYTHING that you do not like about your design, please be 100% honest with your artist!

Sometimes there are minor changes or adjustments that are requested by clients. These changes are made on the spot at the time of the appointment.

In the event that the entire design needs to be completely reworked, we will reschedule your appointment. Our artists reserve the right to cancel the appointment altogether if a total rework is proposed. Any subject matter changes are handled at the artist’s discretion. Our artists generally accept booking requests based on the proposed subject matter, so a change in subject matter could result in a cancelled appointment.

If this process makes you feel uncomfortable, we might not be the right shop for you. If not… we’re excited to work with you!
